Snorkel Lover’s Beach
Welcome back to my third post on Los Cabos! Today we are going to talk about a fun excursion – Snorkeling Lover’s Beach! I’ll also give a few tips that I picked up on my snorkel adventure – and by “picked up” I mean lessons I learned the hard way.
Included in this excursion are transfers from your resort to the marina and back to your resort in an air conditioned van. You will need to pay $1 USD to enter the marina. You pay the marina directly as you enter, so make sure you have a few $1 bills on you. Lunch is included, so no need to pack a lunch. Unless have food allergies! I would NOT suggest eating the provided meal. With the language barrier I did not feel safe trying to communicate my food needs. I brought some power bars to snack on until I got back to the hotel.
Aboard your glass bottom boat, you will tour The Arch, the Sea Lions colony and Land’s End before jumping into the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez at Pelicans Rock. Fun Fact: Our guide told us that The Sea of Cortez is the second saltiest body of water – the Dead Sea is saltier!
You will see a wide variety marine life some of which including: colorful tropical fish, starfish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, sea horses, crabs, and many others as well as underwater flora. Your professional snorkeling guide will always stay with you and show you everything that this fabulous snorkeling spot has to offer! Your guide will even take pictures for you to take home with you! After your underwater adventure you may be able to enjoy free time relaxing on Lover’s and/or Divorce Beach. Fun Fact: Why is it called Lover’s Beach? Lover’s Beach is on the Sea of Cortez side of The Arch making the water very gentle. On the other side is Divorce Beach, it's on the Pacific side of the arch, and the water can be VERY rough and dangerous waters. Hence, one side calm like lovers, the other rough like a divorce.
Tips for this excursion:
Before your even leave for Mexico PACK ALOE VERA GEL! This literally saved my vacation (and probably sanity) when I got a sunburn.
Wear a swim shirt while snorkeling! When you snorkel you are face down in the water. This exposes you back directly to the sun and can cause a burn. Wearing a swim shirt will protect your back from getting burned. See my video for an example of a swim shirt.
Like my mom always says “Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen!” Even after you’re done with snorkeling because you might be given the opportunity to have some beach time. Don’t forget to apply! I forgot and the one hour on the beach left me with a horrible burn on my shoulders for the rest of the day/trip.
If you decide to stay on Lover’s Beach for a while, bring a pair of sandals/flip flops with you. You’ll are able to walk over to Divorce beach on the other side. However, the sand can get VERY hot and WILL burn your feet! I’d also recommend bringing a cover-up/shirt and a towel to sit on if you’d like to sun bathe for a while.
