Orlando Theme Parks Reopening: What You Need to Know!

We are receiving a lot of information coming from the Orlando theme parks today about their reopening process. Let’s walk through some of the main points so you can know what to expect in the coming months whether you have a trip planned or are considering a future trip.

Walt Disney World

  • Magic Kingdom & Animal Kingdom opening date: July 11th

  • EPCOT & Hollywood Studios opening date: July 15th

Maybe most notably, Disney is implementing a reservation system for visiting guests. This is to limit park capacity in the initial phase of reopening. We do not know much about the reservation system at this time but we expect more information on this in the coming days.

Walt Disney World will be implementing and utilizing health and safety protocols that include practices such as mandatory masks for cast members and guests, temperature screenings, social distancing, enhanced cleaning and sanitation and reduced contact between Cast Members and guests (such as contactless payments with transactions).

Parades and fireworks will be temporarily suspended as well as “high-density entertainment” during phase one of the park’s opening. Character meet & greets and play areas will also temporarily remain closed during this initial opening phase.

Universal Orlando Resorts All three Universal Orlando Parks (Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay) will reopen to the general public June 5th.

Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World will have very similar guidelines for guests. Universal guests will be required to wear a face covering, undergo a temperature check before entry, social distancing will be encouraged via floor markings in ride queues and lines, hand sanitation stations will be placed throughout the parks and enhanced cleaning in high touch points will be occurring. Single rider lines will be omitted. Virtual Line experiences will be available for select attractions in order to limit exposure to others. There will be limited capacity within the parks and restaurants as well.

Sea World Orlando

Sea World, Aquatica and Discovery Cove opening date: June 11th

Sea World will be implementing special “enhancements” to their standard park operations. This will include the wearing of masks for guests and employees, temperature screenings, social distancing and more. Many of the same techniques that Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World parks will also be used at Sea World. We expect to be hearing more from the parks in the coming days and weeks and will pass along any information that may be helpful to our guests.
