7 Things You Didn’t Know About Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii

1.) So many things are included in your stay. Complimentary kids club, movie nights on the resort lawn, not to mention that famous Disney service that you may be used to are all included with your stay. Daily activities are listed in your ‘Iwa and is delivered to your room each day. Some activities that may be offered are sunrise yoga, island beach challenge, Menehune scavenger hunt trail, nighttime storytelling with “Uncle”, both ukulele and hula lessons and more!

2.) You can meet characters there. No Disney vacation is complete without meeting the Big Guy! Not only can you meet Mickey and friends at Makahiki Buffet Breakfast (which I really enjoyed), but you can also find Disney characters around the resort. Moana, Stitch, Goofy, Minnie, Donald and Chip and Dale can all be found around the property. Don’t care about seeing the characters? Don’t worry. The characters are not in the lobby of the resort and are rarely seen if you aren’t looking for them.

3.) Car rental is right on property making it convenient for you to rent a car and explore the island. Aulani is amazing but you have to get out and explore Oahu. Renting a car is a must on the island and Aulani makes it so easy. We picked our car up in the parking deck located right on property and were off to explore the island in no time.

4.) You can get some of your favorite Disney food here… and more! Is there anything better than eating a Mickey Bar or Dole Whip while sitting on the beach? You can get both at Aulani as well as other great finds like Mickey Shaved ice, poke bowls and Malasada (donut holes). Grab food by the pool, have a meal with favorite Disney characters or sit and have a nice meal overlooking the ocean at Ama Ama.

5.) There are 7 acres of water activities! With a giant pool, lazy river, two water slides, kid’s splash zone and play ground, snorkeling lagoon and adult only pool there is so much fun to be had in the water… that’s before you even hit the amazing beach!

6.) You can find the only hydrotherapy garden on Oahu here! I was able to experience this as well as the rest of the spa and it was amazing! Not only can you experience your selected spa treatment (such as massages, facials, etc), you can take advantage of the gorgeous outdoor garden. Stand under the rain showers, use custom salt scrubs, relax in one of several hot tubs and mineral pools or simply relax outdoors under a cabana. I enjoyed this just as much as I did my actual spa treatment!

7.) It’s steeped in Hawaiian culture. Disney went to great lengths to work with locals to create and maintain Hawaiian culture. Arrive on property and receive a lei (kids receive a Maui fishhook keepsake necklace). The architecture itself even reflects the Hawaiian islands as does artwork that can be found throughout the resort. I was very impressed with the traditional Hawaiian luau that takes place on select nights. There are activities beforehand like lei making, ukulele lesson, traditional Hawaiian “tattoos” and more! Cast members working at Aulani’s bar, Oelo Room, are even required to speak fluent Hawaiian!
